Using MATLAB

MATLAB is software that was originally designed for working with vectors, matrices, and linear algebra. It, however, has evolved into a powerful tool that is used by many engineers and others who need to use computational mathematics in their work. For this reason we have adopted it for all of our courses.

MATLAB is a little awkward to use at first. We recommend that you start slowly and try to understand what's going on, rather than just memorizing sequences of steps. We have found some brief tutorials that can help you get started quickly. We are also preparing a guide to using MATLAB for precalculus and calculus. A preliminary version is available below.
